Movie Challenge 2011 #4
Wall Street Yeah, it’s suppose to be a classic and I saw it tonight. It’s pretty much excellent and Michael Douglas out acts everyone in every scene. Charlie Sheen is also excellent as the small time broker who gets the chance to go big time via some unscrupulous means. I don’t have a clue what any of the financial talk was about but it didn’t detract from the characters...

2011 Albums: The Joy Formidable- The Big Roar
Well, this week there was only one choice of album. I’ve been waiting for The Joy Formidables debut proper since the start of 2009 and now it’s finally here in all it’s heavy indie rock glory. In equal parts epic (The Ever Changing Spectrum Of A Lie), fast (Cradle), and heavy riffage (Chapter 2) the album is one big bundle of fun that cannot help but make me smile whilst...

Movie Challenge 2011 #3
The Transporter Without further ado, absolute utter crap. Awful acting, awful dialogue, awful plot and awful action/fight sequences to distract from everything else. I can’t believe I wasted nearly 2 hours of my life watching this tripe. 0/10

2011 Albums: Anna Calvi- Anna Calvi
The second album of 2011 I’ve listened to was a last minute choice. I was originallly going to choose either White Lies or The Decemberists but I got tempted by the debut album of a woman I only heard of 2 days ago instead on the basis of Vee saying ‘I see her becoming a new kind of PJ Harvey quite easily’. Well the album is certainly very PJ Harvey, it’s also got a...

James' New Albums Idea
A fair few people I follow on Tumblr (+ me vaguely) are doing a movie challenge to watch 100 films they’ve not seen before. I’m probably not going to keep up with this myself but I’ve had my own idea. Year after year I intend to keep up with new albums as they’re released but generally fail to do so. But this year I’m determined to keep up to date with new releases...

Movie Challenge 2011 #2
Tron Legacy (in 3D) I didn’t really expect it, but I quite liked Tron Legacy. Ok, the story is pretty thing and more predictable than watching a clock, but it’s not too bad + that’s not the most important thing here. It looks pretty good, which might be expected, thus action sequences are also quite snazzy making for light entertainment. Olivia Wilde was also very good as the...

Movie Challenge 2011 #1
As my understanding is, the movie challenge is to watch 100 films in a year that you’ve never seen before. In 52 weeks this would roughtly be 2 films you’ve never seen a week. Well, I’ve seen 2 films I’ve not seen this year already in 1 week so I’m gonna try and keep the habit up. So let’s start. I’m not going to go into vast detail about the films I see,...
