I heard of Little Dragon off the back of their lead singer Yukimi Nagano joining Gorillaz onstage at Glastonbury 2010. So it’s only taken me 18 months to actually check out their music. Ritual Union is quite a nice place to start though, showcasing the bands electronic pop sound in all its forms. There’s the bouncy pop songs to the more slower more experimental tracks, but all of them are written with a pop hook in mind. The main issue with the album is that it does have a somewhat sterile feel to it at times, as if all the emotion has been sucked away by their synths. It meanders a little in its second half too, so it doesn’t seem to reach the highs that are hinted at for the whole duration. Maybe it’s a grower however, for regardless, Ritual Union is quite an interesting and sometimes quite fun album. 7.5/10
