Text 14 Dec James Ether’s Albums of the Year #10-6

Moving swiftly onto the third part:

10. The Airborne Toxic Event- All At Once

All At Once is a massive improvement on TATE’s debut album. It’s has more ideas, features darker, more contemplative lyrics, and is more mature in every way. It’s an indie rock album with more heart and soul than some bands can fit into their entire careers. If the acoustic closer of The Graveyard Near The House doesn’t move you in some way, you must be dead inside.

9. The War On Drugs-Slave Ambient

This album features Dylan-esque folk mixed with hazy guitars and synths. Add in some incredible songwriting and and brillaint lyrics and this is an album that suddenly filled a void I didn’t know I had in my life. It’s utterly gorgeous and will definitely ease your woes away.

8. Ringo Deathstarr- Colour Trip

A mix of all the best shoegaze and dream pop bands of the 80’s, Ringo Deathstarrs debut is loud and heavy but always poppy. Every song has a melodic edge no matter how noisy and lo-fi things get, whilst being so energetic it virtually forces a smile onto your face. Complete addictive.

7. Laura Marling- A Creature I Don’t Know

Laura Marling continues to be brilliant on her third album. The album has a more optimistic tone whilst having a soulful feel with a touch more electric moments than before. It’s still lyrically ace and Laura’s songwriting is as strong as its ever been.

6. The Twilight Singers- Dynamite Steps

Greg Dulli made a long overdue return with The Twilight Singers 5th album. It features all his hallmarks of soulful guitars, moody ballads, and electrifying rockers. The cherry on top is how his lyrics seem to connect with every facet of your love life without even trying. Often beautiful and always moving, Dynamite Steps is an epic return.

You’ll get the next 4 tomorrow!!
