Text 30 Jan 2012 Albums: Islet- Illuminated People

Having been completely blown away by their powerful performance at Constellations Festival in November, I’ve very much been anticipated Islet’s debut full length album with glee. Fortunately, it’s worth the wait. Islet are a bit of an experimental band, with songs shifting dynamics without warning at any given second and it certainly makes the album very intriguing. From the opening incomprehensible noises, Libra Man quickly switches to a bass led groove before This Fortune takes you through a beautiful wall of noise. Elsewhere We Bow is a stark, somewhat odd, acoustic number, whist a various points in the album there are screams to be heard. It’s an extremely dense album, brimming with ideas and it never once gets dull. It’s a little bit impenetrable on first listen, but this definitely seems like a grower. 8/10
